The bike that served as the base for the futuristic turbine-powered motorcycles was the Suzuki Gladius. The builders made adjustments to ensure fully functioning, useable renditions of artists sketched of these concept bikes. After the builders were satisfied of the stability of the heavily modified chassis, foam and wood were used to shape the body. Fiberglass casts were then made for each of the six motorcycles used in the film. Final touches such as paint, aging effects and weaponry were added by the productions art department prior to filming. Production for each bike took about six weeks, with the priority on functionality. According to a builder on set, the bikes could be road registered and ridden daily. |
