Vespa Vespa is an Italian Scooter brand by Piaggio & Co. SPA. The first Enrico Piaggio saw the MP6 Scooter, he exclaimed "Sembra una vespa!" (Like a wasp!). The name stuck. The scooter has a thick rear and connected to the front by a narrow waist much like a wasp's body. The steering rod resembled antennae. The high pitched engine noise is also a perfect fit for the Vespa. Vespas evolved from a 1946 single model scooter to a full line of scooters. Since the beginning, the scooters have been known for their uni-body with a complete covering for the engine, a flat footboard, and a prominent front fairing. The basic design made it easier to develop new models and add features, such as a storage compartment behind the shield and the fuel cap's new location under the hinged seat. Piaggio is now Europe's largest manufacturer of two-wheeled vehicles. |
