1931 Harley-Davidson Model V with Sidecar The suspension used in 1931 was a front leading link spring fork and the rear suspension was rigid. This Leading Link Design would be employed for 42 years, starting in 1906, due to the smoother ride. The Flathead engine is able to sustain speeds of about 60 MPH without any mechanical issue. The 74 ci Twins received a new muffler. The double muffler was also replaced by a single tube pipe. All models produced in 1931 had a new oval shaped tool box mounted on the front fork with a disc-type horn in front of the tool box. Many enthusiasts would remove the tool box for a sleeker look. Until 1931, the sidecar was not changed for more than a decade. All three wheels were now interchangeable and a brake was integrated with the motorcycle's stoppers. *Engine: Flathead, 45 degree, side valve V-Twin Displacement: 73.7 ci - 28 hp Bore and Stroke: 3 7/16 x 4 inches *Transmission: 4 speed hand shift *Drive Train: Primary: Double Row Chain Final: Chain *Carburetor: Shebler Deluxe *Ignition: Battery/Coil *Frame: Steel, Single downtube *Brakes: Front and Rear Drum *Suspension: Front: Leading Link Spring Fork Rear: Rigid *Specifications: Top Speed: 85 MPH Wheel Base: 60 inches Weight: 529 lbs Production: 825 *1931 Prices Average Income $1,858 - $35.73/week New Car: $640 Gas: $.10/gallon Motorcycle: $340 |
