1927 Harley-Davidson JD with Sidecar There were minimal changes on all Harley models in 1927. The most notable was on the Twins, which was the elimination of the distributor which was mounted behind the cylinder. This stopped potential failures. The "double spark" system fired both plugs on every revolution; one for power and the other for providing a harmless spark during the exhaust stroke. This remained a feature on the V-Twins until 1961. This model is equipped with an oil plunger so when the rider is going uphill he can give the motor a shot of oil, making it easier on the motor. The engine has primer cups. Using the primer syringe, the engine could be primed to help get the engine running. *Engine: F-Head, 45 degree, V-Twin Displacement 73.7 ci - 24 hp Bore and Stroke: 3.44 x 4 inches *Transmission: 3 speed *Drive Train: Primary: Chain Final: Chain *Carburetor: Schebler *Ignition: Coil/Points *Frame: Steel Single Downtube *Brakes: Rear: Drum *Suspension: Front: Leading Link Spring Fork *Specifications Top Speed: 60 MPH Wheel Base: 59.5 inches Weight; 405 lbs Production: 9,697 *1927 Prices: Average income: $2,390 - $45.96/week New Car: $445 Gas: $.12/gallon Motorcycle: $320 |
